travel north america mexico sinaloa mazatlan stone island
Stone Island is just across the harbor to the south of Mazatlan's city center.
Depending on where you are on the "island" (which is actually connected to the mainland), you will find very different scenery.
On the north end, closest to Mazatlan, you will find the most densely populated areas with homes on the north east and the tourist beach on the north east.
On the south end, you will find some agricultural land with very few structures and some deserted beaches.
The south east end backs up to a lush, jungle-like, mangrove estuary.
Just south of the "mountain" on the north, is a more typical Mexican rural style community with dirt roads and "unfinished" buildings.
It is interesting to see the contrasts on this small "island" alone.
